Born in Mendoza (Argentina), Veronica Cangemi was first Cellist of the Mendoza Symphony Orchestra before winning the first prizes at the National Singing Contest in Argentina and at the Francisco Vinas Contest in Barcelona.
Veronica Cangemi then started her career in Europe singing Gluck's Armide with Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre in Versailles. From then on she concentrated on the Baroque and Mozart Repertoire, and has worked with Maestro's and Ensembles like Giovanni Antonini and Il Giardino Armonico, Fabio Biondi, Ivor Bolton, William Christie, Adam Fischer, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, René Jacobs, Ton Koopman, Sir Neville Marriner, Zubin Mehta, Jean-Philippe Spinosi with Ensemble Matheus (among others).
She performed at Opera Houses like the Bavarian State Opera, Florence Teatro Comunale, Glyndebourne (title role of Iphigénie en Aulide), Salzburg Festival, Teatro La Fenice, Teatro alla Scala Milan, Theater an der Wien, Zürich's Opera House, Brussels Opera House.
Recent projects are: USA-Debut in San Francisco with Ariodante, La Fida Ninfa with Ensemble Matheus (recording with Naive), Haydn's Creation concert tour in Spain, Dresden State Opera with her debut as Musetta / La Bohème, debut at Amsterdam's Opera House with Haendel's Ercole Amante, Paris Théâtre des Champs-Elysées with Cosi Fan Tutte / Fiordiligi, Carmen (debut of Micaela) in Japan with Vesselina Kasarova, a production of Handel’s Messiah at Nancy’s Opera, Agrippina / Poppea at the Teatro La Fenice Venice, Ariodante / Ginevra in Oviedo, Ottone in Villa on tour with the Giardino Armonico, another tour of Ezio with the Kammerorchester Basel, Don Giovanni / Zerlina at the Scala Milan, Nozze di Figaro / Susanna at the Washington Opera, etc.
In the season 2010-11, she performs Alcina / Morgana at the Staatsoper Vienna, Ottone in Villa at the Innsbruck Festival, Antigona at the Staatsoper Berlin, Orlando Furioso at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Nice, Nancy, Budapest and London, as well as several concerts.
Other upcoming projects are Alcina / title role in Vienna, La Bohème / Mimi at the New National Theatre Tokyo, Deidamia / Nerea at Amsterdam's Opera and concerts with Ensemble Matheus, Café Zimmermann, Opera Fuoco, at the Baden-Baden Festival, at the Wiener Konzerthaüs with Ivor Bolton, etc.
Among her numerous recordings are to mention Ariodante with Deutsche Grammophon which has been awarded "Diapason d'Or of the year 1998" and "Orpheé d'Or" and Griselda with Naive awarded "Diapason d'Or of the year 2006".
